My five month DD, Zoe, is a heavy wetter and hard to settle without feeding at night. I've posted before about the struggle of finding a nappy for night that didn't leak out the sides (as she's a side sleeper). She's since been sleeping on her tummy a bit because she's learnt to roll (woo!) and I thought this might fix things. WRONG.
![]() She wakes up whenever she is wet - and then needs changing. She really thrashes around when being changed in a half asleep way, and it's v.hard to settle her without feeding her back to sleep - which then leads to yet another wet nappy. The other night she went through three Wild Childs, a Snoozywun and a boosted BBB. The changes are worse when I have to put a cover on her. I have to use a cover with the WC as they leak out of the legs - she's very long, but still quite tiny, so even if I've ringbarked her around the middle, the legs still leak. DP has left our bed and now sleeps in the spare room as he can't stand the night nappy struggle. I have tried eco-sposies, and even evil-sposies - and she still wakes up when she wees. Now, I wouldn't want to sleep in my wee either, but I really don't think she NEEDS to feed as often as she does. She has dark circles under her eyes - and you can imagine what mine are like! The only time she sleeps longer than two and a half to three hours is if she's had a total meltdown before bed due to overtiredness - which I try to avoid happening. I struggled with oversupply when she was born and still have lots of milk and so she just feeds away - I do try pulling my boob from her mouth after she's been on for a little while (when it's a getting-back-to-sleep rather than a I'm-hungry feed) but she goes at it like a three course dinner as soon as she latches on, so I'm not sure it really helps.Anyway - any suggestion about what I might try would be lovely. Last night I just used my BumGenius nappies with extra boosting - we went through five of them and the Snoozywun but at least they are a quicker change due to no covers. However she is starting to itch around her crotch area, although there's nothing visible there that looks irritated, I would rather she was wearing something more breathable. I have ordered some longies to go over her Wild Childs to see if they help - but am scared about the nappy changes being even longer... I'm starting to lose the plot (although obviously I realise that other people have much worse problems at night). I can walk her up and down to get her back to sleep, but five or six times a night!? AAAAAAAAAGH. Sorry. It has even helped me just to type it all out. ![]() Beth |

WOW, you do have a little weer on your hands
![]() Having not read your previous threads I am not sure if I am repeating what has already been said or not. I would suggest trying a Heavy Wetter Good Night Sleep Tight (GNST). From what I have heard they are great night nappies. I couldn't find anywhere that had them in stock but here is some info: GNST at The Nappy Bucket GNST are also side snap so you can have it looser around the waist and tighter around the legs if you need to. Is the nappy soaked when you take them off or is it a matter of your baby wont go back to sleep without being changed??? I would also suggest trying a wool cover rather than longies to start with if you are concerned about the hassle of changing. You can get a number of wool covers that snappi on or velcro close so it will be a little faster than putting their legs into longies at every change. No other suggests atm, sorry

What a nightmare for you! ![]() Night nappy solutions in our house have included dedicated night nappies, boosted bamboo delights, bamboo delight with honeyboy over the top, disposables, and nothing makes a difference to how much my kids wake (although Tate seems to sleep better in cloth). Definitely give the wool cover a go! A favourite combo of mine was the Wild Child with a bamboo trifold on the outside followed by a stretchy wool cover. Whizz Kidz are really absorbant too (without the extra trifold!). Are you sure she's warm enough? This makes the MOST difference to sleep at our house. Good luck, I hope things improve very soon!

Thank you for the responses. I use a Baby Beehinds wool cover. The velcro freaks her out.. It's really not a matter of boosting. I used the same two Wild Childs twice the other night as she wakes when the inside two boosters are wet, though the nappy shell itself is dry. I think I may get her tested for a urinary tract infection just in case as she does get very agitated when her nappy is wet in the day - I thought she was just a princess about it, but maybe it's really uncomfortable - however as soon as the nappy comes off in the day she's immediately happy...
I have a Whizz Kidz, but they don't work for us - she is overly big bummed in it and tips from side to side - side snappers don't really work for some reason and I found the Whizz Kidz really hard to put on in semi darkness at three in the morning. She sleeps with me so I'm pretty sure she is warm enough - I'm sometimes worried that she's too warm. [sigh] I have also tried a Krap Katcher, which was OK, but no better or worse than anything else. Maybe I just have to be a bit more proactive and not so lazy and just try and walk her each time rather than feed her. Don't know what else to do and am scared it's becoming a real habit with her to rely on being fed. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind feeding her, but the NAPPIES!!(I wrote the above last night but didn't get a chance to post. Last night was five BumGenius and a Snoozywun and a Wild Child). I did find that our changes weren't so fraught when she had been sleeping all cosied up into me - I have been trying to give her her own bit of the bed at the prompting of DP, but although there were a lot of nappies last night, the night wasn't so dramatic as far as the changes went...) |
