Flynn think the toilet is for putting toilet paper in which it is just not the whole roll.
We have lost 2 double rolls this week. GRRR.

I agree with having a potty around, offering it to her, etc. Emma used to always poo after her bath, so around 16 months we started sitting her on the potty then. Then she went off it for a while - didn't want to sit on it. We just had it around (get used to a potty in the living area, lol) and after a while she started sitting on it for pees. She was pretty much TT just before 2, which was in the spring, but still having accidents across that summer (no nappies though).

i wouldn't push it Ying. there is a big diff between being toilet aware, and being TT. and there can often be regression in children with this - ie, you think they TTd and then they turn around and have accidents all over teh place because the novelty has worn off. not an issue really if you don't have a problem with that, but if you don't want to change clothes/clean up a lot, then you should just let it go. I would get a potty and get her used to that, but I wouldn't expect her to start using it consistently for some time yet.

I woudln't push it yet either Ying, knowing they are weeing/pooing is a lot different to knowing when they need to go. Olivia day trained at 2 1/2 years (last april) But she was telling me about weeing/pooing from 18 months also. Even when Alana is nappy free she stops and wees (on the floor) and knows what she's done because she reaches down to splash in it! lol! she's just gone 13 months

We are quite happy to wait until Harry is ready to TT. He has just turned 3 and I often ask him if he would like to use the toilet or wear nappies, and he says he likes nappies. So for now I am not going to push the issue, Harry will be ready one day and I am currently willing to wait.

Oh Ying,
Please don't let all this e.c. talk make you feel that you "should". From what I've read putting a baby on the potty and trying to help an independent-minded toddler to toilet train are two different things! I totally expect that once my crawling 8 mo can walk he will probably not want to sit still on the potty and may revert back to full time nappies for a while. It really doesn't matter - they all end up learning to use the toilet either way . Maybe, like others have said, get a potty and see what she thinks, but definately don't push it. Go with what feels right - for you too.

I think there's a difference between pushing for tt-ing and encouraging a bub's toilet awareness. Go with your instincts and start when Becky and you are ready
![]() We've had a potty in front of the toilet for quite a while and every now and then we'll catch a poo or a wee in it if I pick up on Mischa's signals. (I learned a lot about her signals, how often etc from having lots and lots of nappy free time.) I don't seem to get the opportunity to go to the toilet by myself these days, so I use it as an opportunity to talk to Mischa about what I'm doing. Sometimes (if she's interested) I'll sit her on the potty while I'm on the toilet. But I don't really consider what I'm doing as toilet training because I feel like we're taking it really easy and I'm not looking to have her out of nappies by any particular age. (Although before she starts school would be great ) But obviously it is toilet training I just figured she seemed ready. We're not all that consistent with it, we're just playing around with it.

Some girls toilet train so early don't they? One little girl I know was toilet trained at 18mths! Just seems so young now that my bub is close to that age (although she was born 2 mths premie). I have taught my daughter some basic baby sign language and everytime I change her nappy we sign together 'toilet'. Her cousin (who is older) also signs toilet and is begining to sign it when she has soiled her nappy so they know she is probably ready to start being toilet trained. Just an idea for those who are using some baby sign language. It's fun seeing your baby communicate before they can speak much but it takes a lot of patience and persistence by the parents.
