Logistics of DD using a toilet...

I reckon it is still easier to empty and rinse out a potty than to have to clean up a poo that was done in a nappy! Of course it is even better when the poo goes straight in the toilet but in comparison, the potty isn't so bad, IMO! :-)

About weaning kids off potties - I think it is a good idea to use a variety of toileting spots right from when toilet learning begins - eg potty not just in the bathroom but in the laundry or on the verandah as well, toilet at home, public toilets and at friends' houses, squatting (or standing) in the garden. This minimises the likelihood of having to wean the child off any particular "prop" and also makes it easier to go when out and about with less/no fuss.

Neve used to sit there are just scream "WIPE MY BUM " constantly until you came. She did that up until she was 4 and we used to see if we left her would she do it herself but NO. Eventually she did .LOL

Patrick did that - but until he was 5!!!! Now he mostly does it, but get the occassional "COME AND CHECK!!!"

Well today while we were at the pool she told me she needed to go to toilet after we got out, so I took her into the cubicle and helped her climb up and got her to balance ther herself so she knows she's able to do it without the seat thing we have here at home, and she also just grabbed the toilet paper before I could stop her and wiped all by herself!! Pity she didn't actually do anything in the toilet (and I was standing there waiting my turn absolutely busting!!), but that's okay

i've done this for my disabled SD for years, i would get her to stand, have her grip one of my thighs with both her hands, she hangs on for dear life, and i get her to bend towards me, so she's bending over - cos of her disability and poor balance, she coudln't do that unassisted. Then i would wipe her. When she got taller, i got her to grab me around the waist. It was dangerous to have her grab anything else e.g the toilet roll holder. If you have a grab rail that is helpful too.

Ok so we just had our first poo in the potty and I was really gagging! Poos in nappies dont bother me, even if I get it on my hands, but this was so gross. Poor thing was so proud and I just kept gagging lol.

I tried the toilet paper thing but it just sticks to her cheeks,lol so a wet wipe worked out really handy.

....now I really need to get her to go to the toilet. She has only been potty training for a few weeks but doing really well. I would like her to feel confident to sit on a toilet though.

Re the wipes - we use the Wiggles toddler wipes just for poopies as they are the only flushable ones. I normally refuse to buy anything branded/licenced but you just can't get any other flushables. Now I have Anara in nappies I suppose I could keep some wet wipes in the toilet, I didn't before because I would not have had enough of a load to wash them separately.

Eliza is almost done with the wet wipes anyways, I have not bought a packet for a while and she seems to be OK now.

Yeah Joh but they are actuallymore expensive than the Wiggles ones. I think the Wiggles you get 60 in a pack, the adult ones are 40's.

I am really excited about my DS as he has just started to trot over and use the potty by himself! It only works if he is bare bummed, which he is at home except for naps, but Dh and I feel it is a major step closer to avoiding the dreaded poo nappies (at 20 months old Liam is over 15 kgs and has a habit of holding onto them for 2 days)
From my perspective, a full potty and a wipe beats having to scrape the nappy and bath the child any day!

Anyway, could someone show me what the toilet seat / step thingy is please?
