Rewards do work!!!

Isabel has been day toilet trained for wees since January. We've had limited success with poos.

She was given a lot of Easter Eggs on the weekend (she doesn't normally have chocolates), so I decided to put them to a good cause instead of just giving them to her. So I told her yesterday when she asked for an Easter Egg that she had to do a poo in the potty or toilet to get an egg.

Amazingly, she did 3 poos in the potty yesterday Today she did 2!!! I don't know how long her eggs are going to last!!!

How long do you have to give them the reward before it just clicks?

Try phasing out the eggs as she becomes more regular with the poos. Or change the reward, special mummy and Isabel time or something that is really special for her. A star chart would work great, for every poo she gets a star after 5 stars she gets something special. Just a note about reward charts, don't take off any stars if she has an accident, only put stars on.

I tried a reward chart but she lost interest because it wasn't attainable enough I think - she tried really hard for the first few stars and then couldn't be bothered

Maybe after this works we can use a reward chart to get the really big bunny

I did the same with Eliza but we offered just one or 2 of the teeeny mini M&M's LOL, but it worked. We did it for a while and when she didn't mention the M&M we didn't offer it. It did not take long, less than a month I think. It would be sproradic afetr that, maybe once a week and then going to the toilet becomes normal for them.

i had luck with smarties/freddo's for wee's only jade started pooing on the toilet after many accidents in her pants after stopping all nappies. bree still wears a night nappy so uses thatsigh

Instead of giving her a easter egg each time she poos, maybe you could stretch it out & say she can have one at the end of the day if she does all her wees & poos in the toilet/potty for that day. Then after a few days of that, just drop them altogether?

We did easter eggs for poos as well, with instant success. It was getting a bit over the top with 4-5 poos a day as DS was trying to squeeze one out every time. He'd do a pea sized poo and ask for an egg, so I started judging whether they were big enough for an egg.

Eventually I gave a few days warning when there were about 10 eggs left and said that once they ran out there were no more. I showed him the bag each time and he chose one, so he knew when it was the last one. He still asks every now and then but has accepted that there aren't any anymore.

The reward thing is fantastic! I do think you need to start with instant rewards and then wean them off them or make them less often.
