i saw this great link recently
Toilet training - staying dry at night - Better Health Channel. brands of cloth trainers i've heard of online:
differences between them? wihtout seeing them in real life, what i've read seems to indicate - fabric they're made out of (outer, inner, soaker layer that's sewn in for absorbency) - closure (snaps on one side, or pullup style - pocket style (which i am guessing is easiest to boost) - whether they are waterproof or not (PUL outer or hidden outer) - some are funkier looking, if the look of the trainers will encourage your child

Hi there!
I would only add that I class cloth trainers in two categories:
For trainer pants with good fit I would go for Noonee Wilga One Wet pants - even the second hand ones I use therefore not custom made, fit really well. hope this also helps,

thanks so much for that Sheree
you've clearly articulated exactly what i was wondering about if there might be a graduation effect of products, and from what you say, there is Pullups to padded trainers to one wet pants to underwear (if i've understood correctly) i get confused about all that, knowing which product is which sort, when i see them online. Where do you put the pocket trainers in your catergories. I'm assuming they are for nights?

Hi again,
In answer to Bilby and Tanya, Yes, I agree with Tanya, some kids never need trainers or pull up nappies at all. Some use only one wet pants, some use the whole range. They are all different with different abilities at different stages and different personalities to deal with this big change in their life. Some use nappies at night and undies in the day if day trained but not at night, some refuse nappies at night and use pull up nappies once day training/ed. In our DD2 case, we have used the whole range when out of the house because she was motivated to stop nappies before she had the skills and we went with her motivation and it has paid off for us. Other kids don't want to stop nappies until they are 100% reliable in undies - trainers etc would be a waste of time and confusing for them. Pocket trainers: There are quite a few different types and I would put them in different categories depending on what you wanted to use them for. Day time: I found Bongo Pull up nappies handy as either a nappy or trainer with waterproof layer, but any other pull up nappy, I personally, wouldn't use in the day time because of the bulk. You may as well use a pocket nappy in a sense, especially if you have some already!! (Given I used undies at home and only used pull up nappies or trainers when out, there isn't a great need for pull up nappies in the day - I think our DD2 was an exception really. Bongo Baby is more for EC kids!!) I suspect the Starbunz would be trim enough going on the picture and the new one recently mentioned (?Bumwear from Brindabella Baby) may be trim enough but I haven't seen it. NIght time: they are best if have AIO type style or stuffing that goes to the sides, due to lying down weeing and the pocket is great to customise the level of absorbency. So I put in this category Happy Heiny, Honey boy (AIO), Blueberry Trainers (AIO), (because I stuff boosters in the AIO ones!! for more absorbency). So there you go, hopefully I haven't been too confusing. Personally I wouldn't buy anything until your little one indicates what they will need, eg by you knowing their learning style and how they start off on the toilet training journey. have fun,

I found my kids still found training pants as being a nappy - just a pull up one. We actually used the bright bots training pants during the day - much more undie like and enough to catch one small wee. At night we used blueberry and simple simon - but they just kept weeing as they kept calling them nappies. As soon as I put Brandon in undies at night he was dry.

I mainly use training pants for outings. Any ones that are absorbent and have a PUL outer. For home toilet training I have found a bear bum works best.
