Default Where to buy bamboo or organic cotton undies? Help!

DD has been in "big girl panties" since early March, still using nap and night-time nappies.

The problem is her undies. She has a variety of brands - Bonds, Pumpkin Patch and Target, and she seems to get horrible red patches of irritation from them. I think the Bonds ones are better than the others, but she has been scratching herself raw in patches and the rest of the area covered by her undies seems pink/red. I never expected this when we left nappies behind. It has become worse with winter. Creams don't seem to do much except if I use an over the counter mild steroid cream. How did we get through 2.5 years of nappies with no rashes, and this happens now?

I thought perhaps bamboo or organic cotton undies might help. Does anyone know where I can get some in size 2-3, or recommend some brands.

Help!

Hi Ange!

Not cheap but found these certified organic cotton children's underwear.

Seems they are cheaper in the states.... Organic Cotton Children's Socks and Underwear

I have seen organic cotton clothes in target lately, might be worth a look.

That really does suck that you have come all this way with no nappy rash and now you have an issue?! Hope you solve the problem.

That is really strange and hugs to your poor DD. Just to check, have you ruled out everything else like a change in washing powder etc?

If you can't find any, perhaps you could have osme custom-made.

Marnie at One Wet Pants does made-to-measure knickers, mostly aimed at babies/young toddlers doing EC, but I'm sure she could do a size 2-3 ... maybe you could send fabric to her (bamboo jersey or org. cotton jersey)? Worth asking ...
Noonee Wilga - Home - custom-made training pants is her website.

Oh yeh, and washing powder was the first thing that came to mind for me - even if she doesn't react to it on her other clothes she might just be more sensitive in the undies area. And even if you used the same powder/liquid for nappies, you'd probably have been using less of it and/or rinsing more.

Hi there,
Bongo Baby makes hemp training pants to order, so I'm sure she wouldn't mind making some hemp undies without the padding. Her hemp ones are called Eco Nix.

Bongo Baby Shop - Welcome

cheers,

I bought some organic cotton kids knickers in KMart last month. I think they were the KMart home brand. I didn't look at them closely so I'm always a bit sceptical about the 'organicness' of such products when they're made on the cheap in China. Have a look at the packaging/swing tag to see if the product you're buying is Certified Organic.

Thanks for your help.

Washing powder is exactly the same type and quantity as since DD's birth. I think it might be because we always used plain sorbolene on the wipe (no water) at every nappy change, so her skin was far more moisturised than now. I guess the onset of winter here in Canberra has exacerbated it. She did have dry skin-related rash all over her body a couple of months ago and we just can't keep her skin moisturised enought.

I've scoped out the links (and the ones I managed to google myself). Unfortunately the ones that would suit her buddha-belly body shape best (bikini style, rather than full brief) seem to be out of stock in her size at most sites.

I might try a trip to Kmart and Target this weekend. DD has organic cotton singlets from Target, but I hadn't noticed organic undies there before. I also might check out the organic/alternative shop that I know about, but I think they only have baby and adult stuff, not kidswear. Though having just written that, it doesn't seem to make sense, so I must call them to find out.

I hope the bamboo crazy gets bigger and extends to everyday kids' clothes. I managed to get myself bamboo singlets and undies from mainstream brands at Wooolies when doing my grocery shop.

In the meantime, I'll just try and moisturise my DD as much as she will allow.

Was going to say the same thing Georgie did. I found with the boys that they still rashed up in that area when the rest of them was fine with their washing powder. So I used to do all the undies, singlets and socks in a seperate wash with half the amount of powder and an extra rinse and it fixed it.
Sorry to hear she is having a tough time Poor darling. Let us know if you find something that fixes it.
