Default Q's for those who have toilet trained

DS is doing so well, but I have a few questions about little ones who use the toilet on their own.

1. Do you have to use wet wipes or do you find normal toilet paper ok? We are getting a lot of skid marks! (TMI)

2. When is it reasonable for them to start wiping themselves? DS is nearly 3.

3. For Mums of boys, DS has great aim and never gets wee everywhere. Do they all go through phases of being really messy, or is it safe to assume he'll always be good about aiming?

Thanks

I let them wipe or offer if they would like to do it themselves then, 'let Mummy just check ok' an I wipe the last check wipe

99% of the time just toilet paper. Every now & again there's a sticky one that needs a wet wipe.

My girls all wipe themselves for wees but I still wipe Chelsea & Emily &, up until recently, Caitlyn for poos. Caitlyn is a hygiene freak so even now sometimes if she can't get herself clean enough she will call me to wipe her. I often tease her that she'll still be asking me to wipe her bum at her 21st

1. The boys use normal paper and a wet facewasher for those times when it just wants to wipe everywhere.

2. They both wipe themselves, they are 3 and 4, however it wasn't till Chase was 2 1/2 and Jaidan 3 that they started doing it themselves and had been tt for a good 6 months.

3. The boys have good aim too. They almost never make a mess... almost. Sometimes when they are distracted, or tired they forget to hold it down and it goes over.

1. Just toilet paper here now, but starting off I often used a facewasher/wipe.
2. Eden is just 4 and I still have to help him sometimes because he gets "zausted". LOL It has only been the last few months that I've been really trying to get him to do it himself. I find that I really have to monitor how much paper he uses (even though I tell him constantly how much he should be using).
3. He's always been pretty good at aiming, but sometimes he gets distracted.

Glad it's not just me. The other day I went in after Chase had done poos and he had used half a roll of toilet paper!! It even blocked the toilet up Lucky I went off to work out what to do, came back to a bowl that was half full with water and thought I would try my luck and flush it again and it went down. I tell him all the time to count 4 squares but he doesn't listen BOYS!

Thanks for all that. It is great that he's so independent now, but yeah I guess all the little steps happen gradually don't they. It wasn't that long ago that I thought I'd be holding him on the toilet for months, then he decided he could do it standing up.

1. Do you have to use wet wipes or do you find normal toilet paper ok? We are getting a lot of skid marks! (TMI) Just toilet paper here.

2. When is it reasonable for them to start wiping themselves? DS is nearly 3. I think it just depends on the individual child. My older two were very independant and just started doing it themselves, and William just stopped asking for help one day. So the girls were about 3, but William about 3 3/4?

3. For Mums of boys, DS has great aim and never gets wee everywhere. Do they all go through phases of being really messy, or is it safe to assume he'll always be good about aiming? We started with sitting down to wee, but he stands now (after going to use a public toilet that was too disgusting to sit on urgh!) but we have very few messy aims. Again I think it depends on the child.

1. normal toilet paper for the first wipe or two then they can us a sorbent wet wipe

2. I keep encouraging them to wipe themselves and I just check and give it a wipe if needed after around 3ish from memory

3. Aim gets worse as they get taller and the margin of error increases. Particularly the first in the morning quick one tends to spray and mess more, as do the "I just want to go back and play quickly" or the "Someone is talking to me and I won't watch what I'm doing"
