Default Caravan Park Holiday 2009

Okay getting myself siked for our Holiday and want to use cloth.
I have 12 BBB fitted,
4 bb magicalls and
7 Peapods pockets

We are living in a tent for 7nights in a caravan part I have to check if there is a laundry, but definatly not hanging my nappies on a their clothes line for someone to pinch.

Because it will be summer I havent used the disposable/flushable liners in the cloth nappies do their bottoms get all sweaty, of course i wont have my squirt to wash the poos off.

Ollie will be 17mths (no hes getting too old already) and walking around by then, I want to really use the cloth I suppose I'll have to use the liners to get the poo of the cloth wipes as well??

I've done a caravan park with cloth but we had a cabin to hang up the nappies in ... personally travelling with kids I think a laundry is a big plus whether or not you use cloth nappies! Although the one we stayed in didn't have a dryer so I'm not sure where you'd hang them up. Either way you'll want quick drying, I have always found pockets or good ol' terry flats to be best (did a long trip with mostly itti bitti AIOs too, but that was more to save luggage space).

Have never used liners even when travelling ... just scraped the poo off with toilet paper and rinsed if necessary (there's usually a sink in the laundry room, and I just clean it well after I use it).

When we did our 4 weeks on the road (mostly bush camping, station and then Mum and Dad's before heading back) we did I think 2 nights at a Caravan Park - I threw all the nappies in while everyone else was cooking dinner (which meant the machines were mostly empty), then we hung them inside the 'front room' of the tent - this particular caravan park you weren't allowed to peg anywhere but the communal line ie so not in sight of others. Worked fine and they were all mostly dry by morning.

I had almost all PeaPods too with bamboo and hemp inserts, and used either a squirty drink bottle in place of our Little Squirt (holding over a toilet or bush loo), or if there was a flushing toilet (not always lol) then I used th flush to remove most of the poo. Otherwise toilet paper and then into the toilet.

The pee'd ones, I squished with my feet in the shower for a quick prerinse before they went in the Cvan park machine. (shower was a once-off lol)

I used toilet paper for the bulk of the bum wiping, and then just liners to finish up so they didn't get that much poo on them at all.

For on the road I had a Magic Washer that you turn by hand. It's kid and dingo-proof lol and worked quite well and we could use second hand water in it which is great when you're carting your own water.

As you said, find out what facilities they offer, whether you're allowed to hang outside your van (if you're vanning) or whether your only choice would be to hang inside or use communal line. Also find out what change their machines take - some cvan places have a spot you can go to get change, others don't. I was a bit scared putting my lovely nappies in the nasty-looking industrial machines lol but they went totally fine and it was only one night anyway

We just came back from 2 weeks on the road and full time cloth and I am so darned proud of myself!! MOst place you camp at have machines to use and whilst none of them had the hot water hooked up, I still managed to wash them pretty well! Had a few strange looks from others coming in after me and I erected a bush line (even took a pic, so might post when I get a chance!) Did have a few probs with getting them dry at some spots as I guess we are in the middle of winter, and I had to cart them from one campsite to another a little damp and rehang. Anyway, got back and now dd is tt'd!! lol Its fun and you feel so good of yourself...especially when you see signs on alot of the bins around the parks saying NO NAPPIES to be place in any bins :-)

Further to Kristy's Magic Washer.... We just bought a 20l drum with a screw on lid and when we camped last year, I just chucked some water in it, with the nappies and then we went 4WDing for a bit - rinsed everything out and all was sweet

nice one Theresa
oh and yep, we 4wd'd too and it's great for agitation lol
I can't remember how much water the Magic Washer takes? I guess either MWasher or drum you just put in what you need so wouldn't be too much of an issue tipping the water out (the lifting of, I mean).

and great fun too!!

I think we had a choice of 20l or 50l drum but I only wanted a 20l as I can lift 20kgs if I have to, but no way I could do 50kgs... of course I never filled it up so there was room for movement too...

Thanks guys for so many Ideas

I do know that the Caravan Park wont allow any personal clothes lines, but we are buying a new tent with the flyscreen annex thingy(alfresco area) thanks for the idea KristyMumTo4.

Never thought about using the toilet paper to wipe off the poos and the shower to rinse the wees.

and a squirting drink bottle. I am hoping it will be hot hot like last year got to 40 degrees when we were away so lovey drying time

oooh i have heard about that magic washer maybe if we go out bush or something.
Cheers
