Can't view Youtube?

For a while now, I haven't been able to view YouTube clips at all I get the following error message:

Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Adobe's Flash Player.

I've downloaded the latest version of FlashPlayer & I've definitely got JavaScript enabled but I still keep getting the same error message.

I use FF browser but I've also tried in IE & I get the same message.

Any ideas on what the problem might be & how to fix it?

have you tried uinstalling/removing flash player and re-installing it?

or it could be a problem with windows...... got all the windows updates that your pc needs?

hmm the only other thing I can think of is checking the folder that your browser installs applications into, and making sure that there isn't an old version/another version installed that may be conflicting.

oh and is it possible that you have youtube listed in a virus scanner/spam filter/exclusion on your browser? your browser might be blocking the content.

Thanks for the ideas Lis I'm at uni all day today but I'll check them out later on tonight & see if that helps.

I admit I've been a slacker but I still haven't been able to fix this problem. Have tried all of Lis' suggestions but none of them have done the trick. Has anyone got any other ideas

What flash player does it say you have installed?

You will have to install the flash player in IE and again in firefox as they use a different plugin system.

Do you have any plugins installed into firefox that could be blocking the content?

If the above site says you have the flash player installed and you still have the issue, see if you can see the following example

It is just a swf file so will run without any embed or detection code. If the example works then you have JS turned off either via a plugin or in your settings.

If flash works and JS doesn't and you you can't find where it would be turned off, post again and I'll continue the thought process.

Thanks but I eventually worked it out (took me all afternoon yesterday to do it though ). Turns out there is something in my firewall (Norton) that was blocking YouTube. If I disable my firewall, I can see it ok.

(will take a min or so to show boxes of colours or will show you a message straight away about needing to upgrade your flash player)

the first is a JS example of embedding flash content. The second is a you tube video embedded with no JS. The examples are odd but it is late and they are the first things I thought of that would serve the purpose.

In firefox, go to tools -> options then click the content tab. Make sure javascript is on.

Both of those examples work. I have definitely got my javascript on.

One of the guys on the FF support forum has given me a javascript fix that allows me to view the youtube file but it means I don't have the full functionality of normal youtube. I can't pause or make it full screen for example but at least I can see the video.
